I don't want to get invested in a campaign for several, or maybe dozens of hours, only to start unwittingly tugging on a narrative thread that is linked to DLC that the game will attempt to extort me into buying just so I can continue playing. Checked the reviews for that, and the current #2 review jumped out at me, because the guy's frustration was that the game allowed him to play into a wall, with no warning. Ended up leaning towards CKII, since that's the one with the Game of Thrones mod. That's cool I'll just stick with the base game for now. I don't know what the sale prices look like, but if I want a 'complete' version of any of these games, I'll have to pay an extra $100-200 on top of whatever I originally paid for the base game. They've also been altering/worsening base game content, only to put the fix to those changes in paid DLC. They've done things like raise prices just before Steam sales to fool people into thinking a game that was really only discounted by less than a dollar was 50% off, apparently. Pretty much all of them, across the board, were negative, focusing on Paradox's pricing and DLC strategy. Went to the reviews to see which of the 3 games would be the best to jump into. So I thought, now that I have a better grasp on the genre, I might give CKII or EUIII (or IV) a try, since I could later read that log. The reviews implied that there was an in-game log feature, but it turns out that it doesn't exist.

Unlike previous attempts at playing Crusader Kings II or Europa Universalis III, the in-game tutorial was actually pretty laid-back, and before long, I felt myself getting into it the way I'd get into a game of Civilization V. Last night, I decided to finally play the copy of Stellaris I got from Humble Monthly a while back.
